After winning his European Championships title in middle weight -70kg in 2012, Mr. Hong Looi went up to the next division -78kg to challenge himself, but individually it was a little unsuccessful. However, being a slightly heavier competitor, he was successful as a part of the Irish men’s team sparring winning 3 consecutive World Championships titles: 2013, 2015 and 2017 – this result itself was something really special in the history of Taekwon-Do in Ireland as well as Taekwon-Do internationally.
Mr Looi returned back down to the middle weight -70kg category in 2018 European Championship. After another year of staying in this category, readjusting a few of his training methods and adding strength training into this program, he managed to get a bronze in the 2019 World Championship. Another fine tuning, and a few months later in the year, he eventually was crowned the 2019 European Championship and retired as European Champion, tallying 20 years fighting career with 10 World Championships & 10 European Championships at the age of 40 years old, finishing the international golden tally of 3x World titles and 3x European titles.
